Effects are an indispensible part of creating any guitar sound. In the Program Select mode, the pedal switches are used to call up the correct bank and select a program. The ToneLab EX also provides a "Stomp-Box mode," in which the effects assigned to the current program are individually assigned to the foot switches, so that each effect can be turned on and off individually as you play. This mode is perfect for when you are using the same effects throughout a song, but might only need the delay on during the solo. Simply stomp the delay on, without the need to create two separate programs. This second mode conveniently transforms the ToneLab EX into a virtual pedal-board. The output jacks provide an Amp/Line output switch to provide optimal sound through any amp or system. For recording, connection to a power amp, or when connecting directly to a mixing console, set the switch to the Line position and enjoy using the Total Equalizer feature to shape the final tone of your sound through the connected system. When connecting the ToneLab EX directly to a guitar amplifier, set this switch to Amp, and select either VOX (For VOX amps), F (for a mostly clean, open back American combo amp), or M (when using a typical British amp with a separate head and a sealed cabinet). With two distinct overdrive modes, versatile tone-shaping, and the ever-popular "More" switch, the Ice 9 delivers a wide range of inspiring tones, yet remains remarkably easy to use. Superior Sound Shaping While most overdrives simply offer a single EQ knob, the Ice 9 is voiced with both a custom Tone control and an extra a Bass response knob. The Bass control adds extra bottom to the sound before it enters the drive stage, delivering dynamic low-end response. Turning the Bass down will result in an overdrive tone with a crisp, extra bite. The musicians at VOX have put together 99 preset programs for the VT20+, expertly voiced and ready for immediate use. Each of the 33 amp models provides three presets: Basic, Effected, and Song. An Effected preset calls up the correct combination of effect type and setting for a particular style.
Song presets are just like Effected presets; each one is a faithful recreation of the signature sound used by a famous guitarist to perform one of their classic tracks. Of course you're also free to edit any preset - or start from scratch with the manual setting - and save up to eight of your own custom sounds to the User presets.
